Kirsten & Kyle - Married at Waimea's Anna Ranch on the Big Island

Kirsten & Kyle - Backyard Wedding at Anna Ranch and Mauna Kea

“I did the impossible - got a Kauai boy to move to Oahu,” Kirsten laughs. There were two things Kirsten and Kyle dreamed of for their wedding day: 1) that it could be held at her Baachan’s (grandma’s) house on the Big Island, where so many of Kirsten’s childhood memories took place and 2) both being such passionate environmental advocates (that’s what brought them together, after all), that it could take place on the weekend of a full moon.

These photos are testament to both of those wishes coming true. K&K’s people gathered from all over the islands and mainland for an uncharacteristically clear and sunny weekend in Waimea. The girls got ready at Kamuela Inn, complete with mom licking her glasses clean :) Then Kirsten held her breath in anticipation on the drive past Mauna Kea to grandma’s house where everyone was waiting. After a sake tea ceremony in the blazing hot sun and reading each other their own heartfelt vows, K&K took some time on the car ride to Anna Ranch to reminisce on their relationship - from long distance, to living in a cramped apartment in Kalihi, to building a house and working from home together on Kauai, to their hope to start their own environmental nonprofit.

The rest of the celebration took place at Anna Ranch with tacos for lunch, a homemade vegan cake flown over from Oahu, sincere speeches and tears from Kyle’s brother and Kristen’s girlfriends and roasters full of local ono food.

These two are a perfect example of how in the best of relationships, a husband and wife make one another better. Better friends, better employees, better advocates for this planet. We are so grateful to know them and can’t wait to see what they do for the Hawaiian islands in their marriage.
